We’ll be in San Diego during the tail-end of summer, which means we won’t be too late to take advantage of the last of the Cali summer bliss! In mid-September, the highs are typically in the upper 70°Fs and lows in the mid-60°Fs. Can you imagine better weather for exploring?

San Diego is also extremely easy to navigate and get around. The international airport is only minutes from the UNITE venue and you could take in all the city’s culture and sites without ever getting in a car! Catch the trolley, hop on the bus, take the speedy COASTER Commuter Rail or explore by bike. Even the good old heel-toe express will easily get you to tons of must-see spots in the city.

Attractions and Museums

San Diego is filled with museums from the classic, like The San Diego Museum of Art, to the quirky, like the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. The San Diego Natural History Museum the best place to explore the natural wonders, both past and present, of Southern California. Plus, it’s the oldest scientific institution in SoCal, and the third oldest west of the Mississippi.

Go for a ride on the Coronado Ferry to soak in the salty breeze, catch the sunset at Scripps Pier, or take advantage of all the attractions at Belmont Park – from rollercoasters to arcades and ziplines.

Of course, you can’t miss the USS Midway, the longest-serving aircraft carrier in the 20th century, when you visit San Diego. In fact, we won’t even hear of it, which is why we decided to host our conference party right aboard this living symbol of freedom! Experience the excitement of America’s favorite aircraft carrier museum while enjoying a buffet dinner and open bar with your UNITE friends.

Parks

If you’d like to take a break from metropolitan views and soak in some nature, there are plenty of parks and gardens to visit in San Diego to satisfy your craving. You could spend entire days just at Balboa Park. This stunning park is not only a beautiful place to go for a stroll in the sun, but also home to 17 museums and gardens (including some mentioned above!).

Take a day trip to La Jolla Park to be surrounded by the coast’s beautiful sandstone cliffs. The rocky shores are often spotted with lounging sea lions and if you visit at low tide, you can even wade in the crystal clear tidal pools. Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is obviously an ideal spot to watch the sunset along the rugged coastline. Don’t miss out on exploring the tide pools and keep your eyes peeled to spot gray whales passing by on their migration.

Food

It’s impossible to capture the essence of San Diego’s diverse food scene in a concise way. This city has influences from such a vast array of global culinary cultures, we would be here all day if we even attempted to list them all.

San Diego is of course known for its sensational seafood, especially the oysters, sushi, and fish tacos, as well as its Mexican Cali-Baja cuisine, like carne asada burritos and fries – but it doesn’t stop there. San Diego is also home to the second largest Filipino-American population in the nation, so there’s no shortage of some of the country’s best adobo and rice dishes you can get your hands on. San Diego’s famous Little Italy is home to tons of restaurants dating back to the 1920’s, when Italian fisherman settled in the city. To top it off, there’s local wine galore. And don’t forget, in San Diego, its patio season year-round!
